UAE could declare a five-day weekend this December for National Day celebrations, extending “Eid Al Etihad” holidays.
ABU DHABI: The UAE is reportedly considering a five-day weekend for this year’s December National Day celebrations, known locally as “Eid Al Etihad”. If approved, the break would stretch from Sunday, December 1 through Thursday, December 5—giving residents ample time for leisure or travel.
While official confirmation is still awaited, government insiders suggest this year’s holiday could be extended to accommodate the 53rd UAE National Day, which marks the founding of the union in 1971.
For residents, this presents a rare opportunity to enjoy an extended break—potentially spurring local tourism and hospitality activity. Many travel platforms have already started promoting exclusive UAE-based staycations and short international getaways in anticipation of the long weekend.
In past years, National Day breaks have ranged from two to three days. A five-day break would mark one of the longest public holidays for the UAE, aligning with the country’s ongoing push to support work-life balance and cultural celebrations.
Final decisions are expected in the coming weeks, likely coordinated with UAE Cabinet announcements.
