ABU DHABI: The UAE Media Council has issued a clear warning against the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies in creating or distributing harmful content. Officials underlined that the unauthorised use of AI to depict national symbols or public figures without prior approval is considered a legal violation under the country’s media content standards.
The Council stated that AI-generated misinformation, hate speech, defamatory material, or content that undermines social values will be treated as serious media offences. Such violations fall under the Media Violations Regulation, which prescribes fines and administrative penalties for offenders.
The advisory serves as a reminder that while AI and digital tools present new opportunities, their misuse poses risks to societal stability and individual dignity. The UAE continues to take proactive steps in balancing innovation with responsibility, ensuring that digital growth aligns with cultural values and legal frameworks.
The Council also urged social media users, media institutions, and content creators to adhere strictly to approved laws and ethical guidelines when leveraging new technologies. Upholding professional responsibility and respecting public trust were emphasised as key principles for maintaining a safe and credible media environment.
