British Council introduces AiBC, an AI-powered engine giving English learners instant, personalised speaking feedback and confidence-building support.

LONDON: The British Council has launched AiBC, a new AI-powered English learning engine designed to transform how learners improve their speaking skills. The tool offers real-time, personalised feedback, helping students build confidence in communication for work, study, and travel.

AiBC is being integrated into the British Council’s online learning platform and complements live classes with expert teachers. Developed by the Council’s language specialists, it draws on 90 years of educational expertise and reflects a shift in language instruction toward hybrid and digital-first models.

Learners now gain access to AI-powered speaking activities after lessons, simulating natural conversations and offering grammar, fluency, and vocabulary feedback via downloadable reports. These activities can be repeated, giving students a safe, judgement-free space to practice and reinforce learning.

Importantly, AiBC is a human-first AI solution. It doesn’t replace teachers but supports them—combining real guidance with digital confidence-building tools. It also aligns with secure data standards (GDPR), ensuring safe and inclusive learning environments.

Mark Walker, Director of English and Exams at the British Council, said, “AiBC brings our teaching excellence into a new era, offering learners flexible, realistic ways to practise English and grow their confidence.”

AiBC will expand across global programmes, reflecting the British Council’s commitment to responsible AI in education.
