The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, co-chaired by Egypt and the US, saw UAE join efforts to secure lasting peace.

SHARM EL-SHEIKH: In a landmark gathering held on Monday, Egypt and the United States co-chaired the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, drawing together Arab and international leaders including key participation from the United Arab Emirates. The summit focused on solidifying the ceasefire in Gaza and initiating efforts for long-term regional peace and reconstruction.

Representing UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, led the UAE delegation. The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit was jointly led by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.

The summit’s opening session marked a historical moment as Presidents El-Sisi, Trump, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani officially signed a ceasefire agreement to end the war in Gaza. The agreement was witnessed by attending global leaders and dignitaries.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit aimed not only to confirm the ceasefire but also to launch a comprehensive political and humanitarian initiative. The key objectives include rebuilding the Gaza Strip, alleviating the humanitarian crisis, and laying the groundwork for sustainable security and prosperity across the Middle East.

In his keynote address, President El-Sisi described the summit as a symbol of hope. “It promises to close a painful chapter and usher in a new era of peace and stability in the region,” he said. Addressing President Trump directly, El-Sisi praised his leadership in achieving the agreement: “You have demonstrated that true leadership is measured not by the initiation of wars, but by the capacity to conclude them.”

El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to the two-state solution and called for mutual recognition between Palestine and Israel. He also announced Egypt’s intention to host a future “Conference for Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development” to support rebuilding efforts in Gaza.

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, El-Sisi awarded President Trump the “Order of the Nile,” Egypt’s highest honour, recognising his role in ending the Gaza conflict.
