Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif said he will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for brokering the Gaza ceasefire.
SHARM EL-SHEIKH: In a move that underscores growing international recognition of diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced plans to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The announcement was made Monday during the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit, where global leaders gathered to celebrate the Gaza ceasefire.
Speaking alongside President Trump at the event, Sharif praised his efforts in ending multiple regional conflicts. “Pakistan had nominated President Donald Trump for Nobel Peace Prize for his outstanding, extraordinary contributions to, first, stop the war between India and Pakistan and then achieve a ceasefire,” he said. He added that the President’s recent work on the Gaza peace deal “is saving millions of lives in the Middle East.”
The Pakistani leader described Trump as a “man of peace” whose leadership has halted as many as eight major conflicts. “I think that you are the man this world needed most at this point in time,” Sharif said, saluting Trump during the summit’s ceremony. The Trump Nobel Peace nomination marks the second time Islamabad has backed the US President for the prestigious award, following a similar gesture earlier this year for brokering peace between India and Pakistan.
Trump, in turn, acknowledged Sharif’s remarks warmly and introduced him among other dignitaries present at the summit. He also appeared to take a light-hearted jab at Norway for not awarding him the prize earlier, commenting, “Oh, Norway, aye yay yay. What happened, Norway?”
Other leaders, including Israeli officials and US lawmakers, have also expressed intentions to nominate Trump for future Nobel consideration, particularly for the 2026 award cycle.
The Trump Nobel Peace nomination is expected to spark international debate, but it highlights a shift in recognition for diplomatic results in high-conflict regions.
