ABU DHABI: Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated that the UAE believes lasting peace and stability in the region can only come from a fair and sustainable solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This involves a political path to a two-state solution, creating an independent Palestinian state living peacefully beside Israel, based on agreements and international law.

She stressed the importance of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as part of any solution.

Al Hashimy highlighted the UAE’s ongoing support for Palestinians, providing urgent aid to Gaza as directed by its leaders. Over the past ten months, the UAE sent 39,756 tonnes of supplies to Gaza via 8 ships, 1,271 trucks, and 337 flights. The UAE will keep working with the UN and international partners to support efforts to ease the humanitarian suffering.

She noted that returning to the situation before 7th October 2023 won’t bring lasting peace. The UAE believes peace and security start with an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages and detainees.

Al Hashimy proposed deploying a temporary international mission in Gaza, invited by the Palestinian government, to establish law and order, address humanitarian needs, and prepare for governance. This mission would help reunite Gaza and the West Bank under a legitimate Palestinian Authority. She emphasized the need for Israel, as the occupying power, to help achieve this vision by lifting the blockade and allowing the Palestinian Authority to operate effectively.

She called for intensified efforts from regional and international partners, including the United States, to achieve a peaceful future for Israelis and Palestinians. An American commitment to a two-state solution and Palestinian reforms is crucial.

Al Hashimy affirmed the UAE’s continued humanitarian support for Palestinians and its readiness to contribute to a sustainable resolution of the conflict, in line with the two-state solution, in partnership with the international community. Establishing peace benefits the entire Middle East and the global community.
