DUBAI: The Sustainable City – Dubai, the region’s first fully sustainable community, has started a new pilot project with delivery robots. In collaboration with Dubai Future Labs and Lyve Global, this project will see three autonomous robots begin delivering goods within the community this month. These robots will serve all restaurants and shops in the plaza area, using smart technology powered by Lyve Global.
The design of The Sustainable City, which is pedestrian-friendly and car-free within residential clusters, makes it an ideal place to test these robots. The pilot aims to enhance safety, cleanliness, and cost-efficiency while reducing traffic, carbon emissions, and waiting times with these last-mile delivery robots.
Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Future Labs, highlighted that this project is a major step forward in developing robotics technologies for transportation and logistics in Dubai. It shows the city’s dedication to using technology to innovate and improve quality of life.
The robots are designed to deliver products quickly, typically within 30 minutes, and can navigate their surroundings safely. They can even find charging stations on their own, removing the need for human assistance. This project fits perfectly with the “Dubai Robotics and Automation Program,” launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in September 2022.
Fadi Alfaris, GM of NZE Solutions at SEE Holding, noted that The Sustainable City is an excellent testing ground for these robots due to its design. The car-free residential clusters provide a safe environment for testing and operating advanced technologies, ensuring resident safety and optimal performance of the delivery robots.
The Sustainable City has been designed to be future-ready, capable of adopting the latest technologies and adapting to changing needs. It operates as a living lab, continuously testing new solutions and innovations in sustainability to lead towards a net-zero emissions future.

Hassan Hallas, CEO at Lyve Global, expressed excitement about working with Dubai Future Labs on this project. He believes this initiative is a significant step in revolutionising logistics, underscoring a commitment to innovation and sustainability. Together, they aim to create a smarter, more connected future for logistics.
The delivery robots, developed by Dubai Future Labs, feature advanced technologies, including real-time tracking, a backend order fulfillment system by Lyve Global, and a secure delivery compartment only accessible by the customer.
These robots promise fast deliveries within 30 minutes, navigating sidewalks safely and independently while finding charging stations as needed. This initiative supports Dubai’s goal of making 25% of trips autonomous by 2030 and helps position Dubai as the world’s smartest city.
