Emirati sailors claimed top positions in ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes on day one of Mussanah Sailing Week, showcasing strong UAE talent.
MUSSANAH: The Abu Dhabi Sailing Team delivered an impressive performance on the opening day of Mussanah Sailing Week, currently underway in the Sultanate of Oman. Competing against elite sailors from across the region and beyond, the UAE’s young athletes proved their strength in multiple categories.
Leading the charge, Abdullah Al Zubaidi clinched first place in the ILCA 4 class, demonstrating sharp focus and a strong bid for the overall title. In the ILCA 6 category, Mohammed Abdul Karim took a commendable second place, following a thrilling contest right up to the finish line.
The UAE’s female sailors also made their mark in the ILCA 4 Girls category, with Marwa Al Hammadi taking the top spot and Al Yazia Al Hammadi finishing second, underlining the growing presence and success of Emirati women in the sport of sailing.
In the Optimist class, Khalifa Al Rumaithi ranked eighth in the preliminary standings after a competitive round featuring participants from leading sailing academies in the region.
The technical staff of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Academy praised the results, attributing them to the team’s rigorous training schedule and the national strategy to develop youth talent in modern sailing disciplines.
With several more races to come, the Abu Dhabi Sailing Team is focused on maintaining momentum and earning podium finishes, aiming to proudly raise the UAE flag during the championship’s final ceremony.
