SHARJAH: Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi inaugurated the Sharjah Literature Festival, celebrating Emirati storytelling under the theme ‘Emirati Tales Inspire the Future.’

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the festival highlights the UAE’s literary and cultural vibrancy. Running until January 21, it brings together local publishers, authors, and creatives to explore nine core themes of literature and culture.

Sheikha Bodour expressed pride in Sharjah’s leadership in literature, saying, “The festival celebrates our shared stories and nurtures Emirati creativity. By linking our past with the present, these stories resonate globally, inspiring cultural dialogue and imagination.”

The opening ceremony featured a visual and musical extravaganza. Artist Abdullah Alastad showcased Arabic calligraphy, accompanied by poet Zigzag Ghanem’s live recital of captivating verses. The ceremony embodied the spirit of Emirati art and literary beauty.

The festival offers 41 Emirati publishers an opportunity to showcase their latest works at a book fair. Visitors can immerse themselves in 20 cultural programs, eight workshops, and daily musical performances. Other highlights include local poetry, storytelling sessions, and unique dining experiences from over 10 restaurants.
