ZEE5’s Bhagwat: Chapter 1 – Raakshas, releasing October 17, blends crime, emotion, and small-town realism in a powerful Diwali premiere.
MUMBAI: As Diwali brightens homes globally, ZEE5 Global is set to premiere a gripping new original – Bhagwat: Chapter One – Raakshas – a crime thriller poised to redefine the heartland genre. Releasing October 17, the film promises a dark, emotionally intense story that taps into small-town realism with compelling cinematic depth.
Set in the tense lanes of Robertsganj, Uttar Pradesh, the narrative follows Inspector Vishwas Bhagwat (played by Arshad Warsi), a driven officer chasing down a brutal killer while wrestling with his own moral dilemmas. His counterpart, Sameer (played by Jitendra Kumar), is a seemingly average man whose secrets unravel into something much more disturbing. Their psychological battle forms the core of the film.
Director Akshay Shere notes the film is not just a thriller but a moral exploration of justice, guilt, and redemption. “We chose Arshad for his balance of intensity and vulnerability. He gives Inspector Bhagwat rare emotional depth,” Shere said. “Jitendra breaks away from his usual roles, bringing unpredictability that complements Arshad’s grounded energy.”
The film also stars Ayesha Kaduskar in a key role and is produced by Baweja Studios, with writing by Bhavini Bheda and Sumit Saxena. Every frame of Bhagwat captures the dusty silence, societal weight, and lived-in truth of India’s hinterland — making it a character in itself.
By focusing on authenticity and inner conflict, Bhagwat stands apart from slick, urban crime dramas. The film reflects a storytelling shift — from spectacle to substance — and will likely resonate with Indian and diaspora audiences alike.
This Diwali, ZEE5 delivers a gritty tale not of sparkle, but shadows — where justice isn’t clean, and truth isn’t easy.
