NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India has dropped some new rules to make your life a little easier during those frustrating winter flight delays in northern India. We all know how dense fog and chilly weather can throw a wrench into air travel, but the DGCA is trying to soften the blow with some practical moves to ensure passengers are comfortable.
So here’s the deal: if you’re stuck at the airport for 2-4 hours, airlines are now required to serve you tea, coffee, and some snacks to keep your spirits up. If you’re unlucky enough to wait even longer, say over 4 hours, then it’s meal time – yes, you’ll get a proper meal to keep you going. For those short delays of up to two hours, don’t worry – there will be drinking water available to keep you hydrated while you wait for your flight.
And it gets better. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has come up with a smart move for passengers who are stranded on the plane due to bad weather. Now, you can smoothly re-enter the airport terminal, so you don’t feel like you’re stuck in some airport purgatory. They’ll be doing some drills to make sure everything runs smoothly when flights finally take off.
The Ministry also pointed out that a delay in one sector often messes up the whole airline network, so the DGCA wants to ease your frustration with these new rules. In a tweet on Friday, they reassured us that these measures are all about prioritising your comfort during those unavoidable travel hiccups, like the dense fog that recently delayed flights in Delhi.
