ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple regions of the country from the evening of 6 July through 8 July. The advisory warns of the potential for flash floods, urban flooding, and landslides due to the expected intense wet spell.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, Balochistan, and southeastern Sindh. Heavy downpours are particularly forecast for Upper Punjab, the Potohar plateau, northern Balochistan, and Kashmir—regions prone to flash flooding and slope instability.

The PMD cautioned that local streams and rivers may overflow due to heavy rainfall, increasing the threat of flash floods. Urban centres, especially in low-lying areas, may experience waterlogging and traffic disruption. Residents in mountainous areas have also been urged to stay vigilant for possible landslides.

Recent downpours have already affected Islamabad, Jhelum, Lahore, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Temperatures remain high across the country, with Nokkundi recording the highest at 47°C.

Authorities have advised citizens to monitor weather updates and follow safety guidelines to prevent casualties and property damage during the rain spell. Emergency services are on high alert to respond swiftly in case of any weather-induced incidents.
