The Department of Energy introduces a new vertical LPG tank system for Abu Dhabi’s food outlets, enhancing safety, reducing cylinder use, and simplifying gas supply operations.
ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has launched the emirate’s first vertical Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tank system for food establishments, offering a modern, safe, and efficient alternative to traditional LPG cylinders. The new vertical tanks, with a capacity of up to 125 gallons, come equipped with explosion-proof vaporisers and are refilled on-site by licensed operators—removing the need for cylinder storage or manual handling
This initiative marks a significant move towards enhancing safety standards and operational efficiency within Abu Dhabi’s food service sector. In line with the implementation, the DoE issued Technical Bulletin No (1/2025), detailing installation requirements, safety protocols, and compliance guidelines in accordance with UAE Fire and Life Safety Code and NFPA standards.
Dr Saif Saeed Al Qubaisi, Acting Director General for Regulatory Affairs at DoE, said the project underscores the department’s mission to protect public safety and ensure a secure energy supply for businesses. He reaffirmed the importance of gas as a reliable and essential energy source for food operations.
Engineer Ahmed Al Sheebani, Executive Director of Petroleum Products Regulatory Affairs, emphasised that the system aligns with international best practices and offers food establishments a safer, sustainable, and future-ready LPG solution. He noted that implementation is done in partnership with licensed private sector operators, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
The DoE is encouraging all food establishments—especially those without access to centralised gas networks—to adopt the vertical LPG tank system. The move not only simplifies compliance with current and future safety regulations but also supports the transition to a safer and more resilient energy infrastructure for the hospitality sector.
