Dubai celebrates Diwali with a massive 60 kg spice rangoli at Waterfront Market, highlighting culture and festive spirit.

DUBAI: In a dazzling celebration of Diwali, Dubai has unveiled the city’s largest Diwali spice rangoli, using over 60 kilograms of vibrant spices such as turmeric, cinnamon, chili, and coriander. Measuring six metres by six metres, the intricate design will be on display at the Waterfront Market until 26 October.

The rangoli is part of the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment’s (DFRE) citywide “Noor Diwali” festival, honouring the Indian Festival of Lights with culture-rich events across the emirate. This artistic installation brings together elements of community, tradition, and culinary heritage—central themes of the Diwali celebration.

Spices such as sesame, cardamom, star anise, bay leaves, mung beans, lentils, and even coffee beans were used to create this multi-sensory artwork. The spice rangoli symbolises the unity and diversity that Dubai celebrates during festive occasions, attracting both residents and tourists to the market.

Unveiled in a vibrant ceremony, the event was attended by Mr. Sunil Kumar, Consul (Passport) from the Consulate General of India, alongside DFRE officials. Speaking at the launch, representatives emphasised the market’s role as a destination that merges tradition with modern experiences.

With food stalls, festive shopping, and a cultural calendar in full swing, the Waterfront Market serves as a perfect venue for showcasing the colours, aromas, and emotions of Diwali. The Diwali spice rangoli stands not just as a photo-worthy attraction, but a meaningful tribute to heritage.
