The Grand Egyptian Museum will officially open on November 1, 2025, with full public entry from November 4, showcasing the full Tutankhamun collection.
Cairo: After years of waiting, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located next to the famous Giza Pyramids, is finally ready to open. The grand opening is set for November 1, 2025, and all visitors will be allowed in from November 4.
The GEM is called the world’s biggest archaeological museum and is seen as a major cultural step for Egypt. At the centre of the museum will be the full collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures—more than 5,398 items, including his famous golden mask, jewellery, clothes, and even chariots—all displayed together for the first time.
The museum itself is modern and massive, with big galleries and glass walls offering beautiful views of the pyramids. Some parts of the GEM have already opened in 2024, like the Grand Hall and other gallery spaces. But the most special exhibits were kept aside for the main launch.
Tourism is very important for Egypt’s economy, making up almost 9 percent of the country’s GDP. With this museum, Egypt hopes to bring in more tourists from around the world and grow the tourism sector in a big way.
But GEM is more than just a museum. It is a huge national project that brings together history, art, and economic development. Experts say it will be one of the most important museum openings this century.
