DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police have announced new speed limits on Al Amardi Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street, effective from 30th September 2024.

The speed limit on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will increase to 100 km/h between Dubai Al Ain Road and Academic City Roundabout, and 90 km/h between Academic City Roundabout and Al Khawaneej Street. Al Amardi Street’s speed limit will be set to 90 km/h between Al Khawaneej Street and Emirates Road.

These changes were made after an engineering and technical study by the RTA, aiming to improve traffic flow and road safety. Both streets have been expanded, adding more lanes and enhancing intersections. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street’s recent developments, like the Dubai Al Ain Road overpass, are ongoing, with completion expected by 2030, which will allow a 100 km/h limit across the street. Al Amardi Street has also been expanded, with service roads and a new signal-controlled intersection at Al Khawaneej Street.

The speed adjustments are part of Dubai’s regular reviews of speed limits, based on the RTA’s Speed Management Manual. This manual sets appropriate speed limits using global best practices, considering factors like road design, urban development, pedestrian movement, and traffic conditions.

To prepare for these changes, RTA will update traffic signs and road markings on both streets, ensuring they meet the highest safety standards before the new speed limits are enforced on 30th September 2024.
